I purchased for a temporary server use. It takes a while to save a files with over 200mb. But still a great tool to use as backup. Server use is a bit challenging. It is very easy to setup and share with other computers.

I have been using Buffalo products for years. I am Network and computer engineer. I install them at my clients office and they work great!. Good product and support. I recorded them.

The unit seems reasonably well made. Startup guide seems to cover most of the bases, and I was up and running with the first Win 10 Pro station very quickly. But, getting the second station working required hours of forum-reading to discover that a Registry switch related to "unsecure guest login" to lanman resources needed to be set. This really needs to either be part of the software, or documented.One other thing... the fan does not run on high very often, but when it does, it's LOUD.

Was advised by Buffalo Support this NAS cannot be joined to an Active Directory domain unless SMBv1 is enabled - which is a security risk. I was also advised that doing so would put too much of a load on the CPU and is not recommended.Am disappointed this brand new NAS requires an out of date, risky SMBv1 protocol to be enabled on our domain controller in order to be joined to our domain.

This would be the first review I have ever written. I felt it was necessary this time around to help people avoid the same mistake I made in this purchase based on the description of a 12TB NAS. This can be a 12tb NAS...IF it is configured as a RAID 0. The description of this product was listed as a 12TB NAS, and that is the reason i purchased it. What the description does NOT tell you, the device is shipped with two 6tb hard drives included. The default configuration is a RAID 1 out of the box, meaning you have a 6tb drive with complete redundancy. I was looking for a 12tb RAID 1. While it is true that I can reconfigure this to be a RAID 0 and use both drives to create a 12tb NAS device...my application requires a 12tb redundant RAID. When I made the discovery of this configuration issue, I had contacted the manufacturer to see if i could upgrade the drives on my own. According to the support response, 6tb is the largest drive this device will support, rendering this device useless to me. At this point i am weighing my options for returning the product. I have been a fan of the Buffalo products in this past, needless to say this was an expensive disappointment.
