This thing is small--even with the carrying case, it will fit on my palm. It allows a clear picture of the temperature variations in the field of view, which is amazingly useful under a number of circumstances. Medically, it would let you get a clear visualization of differences in temperature--hotspots or coldspots--very clearly. It connects via the USB-C on my cell phone; the application downloaded to my Android based phone quickly and does what I need. Looking forward to cooler weather to check my home for heat leaks, though I will primarily use it medically.

I've been blown away with this, so much so I'm leaving a review!Having looked into getting a thermal imaging camera for a while to help balance radiators and in-turn pay for this gadget's purchase vs. paying a plumber, I've also found this camera has helped improved the insulation/air tightness around the house and other handy uses. I recommend this camera especially if it's at a reduced price.I was tempted by the HikMicro Mini2 as, at the time of purchase, this was the least expensive option compared to other USB-C alternatives whilst also being smaller in size and offering comparable pixel count/app functionality. I wasn't keen on the bulkiness of the hand-held cameras as they need yet more batteries and other USB-C cameras are larger. This came with a short USB-C extender (I assume allowing for phone cases) and a coiled USB-C extender cable which would allow the camera to be held away from the phone or mounted to the phone/case (maybe with velcro). The camera is boxed in a small foam lined zip-shell case that easily fits in the pocket to protect the camera. The camera plugs into the phone and runs on the HIKMicro Viewer app (I'm using it with a Samsung A71 on Android). I've had no issues with the app or camera in 10+hrs use, which has proven to be very accurate and sensitive to changes in temperature. It's good on battery usage, but if you were to use this all day you would need to think about charging your phone or unplugging the camera when not in use. I think I'd get at least 3hrs solid use before the phone needs charging but haven't really tested and have an aging phone battery. The camera itself has a decent quality image that picks up heat very accurately (to within tenths of a degree) even when momentarily touching a surface. I've even found it's useful for tracing hot and cold pipes buried in the floor/wall (where heat can transfer to the surface) and electrical cables buried in the wall when using a hairdryer. It's like X-ray vision! The app displays the maximum, minimum and temperature in the centre of the image, which appear as crosshairs moving around the screen as you move the camera or the temperature moves, and these can be turned off individually in the settings. The emissivity and the viewing distance are adjusted manually as materials have different emissivity and distance has a small bearing on temperature reading. This is good for accuracy. These settings are changed manually - see cons below. There are multiple display options to see the image displayed in different colours or in black and white/greyscale.The app allows for thermal photos and videos (up to 60 seconds) and saves them to the app where they can be saved to the phone if needed. I've attached two examples, one of a heated car seat and the other a radiator after turning the heating on and seeing the hot water flowing through. There is an option to take thermal images with an optical image inset and this is good where you might be imaging a thermally undefined surface or want to show where the image was taken. The only cons I can share are improvements for HIKMicro to make in the app:1. The emissivity has to be adjusted manually (if you need to) so you need to know a value to set. This is easy to search for online with the phone in hand, but it would be good if the app had a basic list of materials/values to search from.2. The viewing distance is adjusted in the same way as the emissivity and both are changed with small '+' and '-' buttons where you need to tap the setting and then tap lots to adjust. It would be great if the app had a scroll wheel/slide bar to adjust the values quickly from the viewer without having to tap the setting first. This is the only negative I can think of, and certainly shouldn't put you off getting this camera as it's been a great investment and paid for itself in the first week. I've now got family and friends lining up wanting their radiators and walls imaging. Thanks HIKMicro!

The Mini2 product comes with downloadable software for android that works as advertised. The quality of imaging is as described and it is easy to use.The resolution is good and when light levels permit the auto alignment with visible image outline is useful.Definitely worth the price point, but worth considering the Mini3 with its manual focal length setting and 2x pixels if that is within your budget.

I've been wanting a device like this for awhile. But the dedicated handheld devices quite expensive. This is still an investment, but it's cheaper - I figure that's because the processing hardware and software is in the smartphone and this device is just the sensor. The sensor is quite small and light, but still dense and heavy given its compact size. It'll plug directly into the USB-C port. It comes with a short extender if you have a smartphone case, as well as an extension cord which is handy if you want to hold the phone stationary while scanning with just the sensor. It comes with a well made and protective carrying case, though the extension cord doesn't seem to fit. My Samsung S20+ recognized the sensor immediately. You do have to download the viewer app, which isn't very well rated. I would say the app is functional and intuitive - there are only so many settings and options. If reading the manual and viewing the how-to videos is too much effort, you'll figure out most of the functionality by randomly pressing buttons and see how it affects the results. There's an occasional long loading of something or other, which you can't cancel or escape. You just have to wait until it's done - think the worst so far was about 30 seconds. But otherwise, it's been pretty smooth and responsive. As for the performance, it shows exactly what you'd expect from a thermal imaging sensor. And there were a few surprising sources of heat generators in my office. My biggest issue is that the crosshair indicator and temperature reading for the hottest source is red. Yeah, the thermal image shows the hottest areas as red too. Red font over a red background - might have to rethink that setting in a future software revision. Or there's a manual setting to change that, but I haven't located it yet.Overall, I'm very pleased with this device and the app should only get better with updates. I'm assuming the lowest ratings are from earlier versions of the software as I am satisfied with the current version. Also, installing a firmware update was pretty quick - maybe a minute or so to complete. And it shows that they are updating software, so there should be continued support and improvements.

Good product for the price and for DIY purposes. Picture is blurred and no way to sharpen the image. Otherwise ok.
