For those that don't know what this is from, here's a quick summary: Since 2002 the Japanese broadcast channel NHK has been showing an educational children's program called PythagoraSwitch (Also called Pitagora Suitchi online). It has gained some fame in the western world for its complicated Rube Goldberg contraptions made up of everyday objects that always end with the logo of the show appearing in some mechanical manner with the theme jingle playing. This toy is meant to be a way for kids to recreate that contraption ending at home.In a nutshell, it's a 2 AA battery-powered toy that once a marble (or the supplied ball bearing) travels across the top channel and into the main chute, it causes the PythagoraSwitch flag to flick up and trigger a switch that plays the theme jingle on a small speaker. It's a very simple thing in and of itself but it is intended to be the end receptacle for a much larger home made Rube Goldberg contraption. So instead of considering it a stand-alone toy, it's more of an incentive for a child to explore engineering and crafting as they create their own contraptions like the ones they saw on TV.If fact, an earlier version of this exact toy has been featured in the show's academy series of segments showing kids how to make some of the gimmicks at home. Here's one for instance: [...] (Skip to the end if you're impatient)Now although this version works in an identical manner as the one in the video above, there are a few positive differences:* The back plate is clear, showing the inner working with a fully annotated (in Japanese) overprint on how the device works.* The switch trigger mechanism that signals the theme jingle to play is more robust. I've been fidgeting with the thing endlessly and not once has it failed to trigger the sample.* The speaker is nice and loud with the jingle sample being of reasonably quality.* There's a slot at the bottom that allows for quick removal of the ball which is nice for resetting.* On the front plate some small, barely visible, text is embossed that reads (in English): "May this toy give children wisdom." Incredibly heartwarming. This is the ultimate toy for fans of the NHK educational children's program PythagoraSwitch. Even though it can only be triggered once before needing to be reset and even though it really is just the end to something a child needs to engineer on their own, it's a very charming toy and a great way to take those crazy Japanese contraptions out of the screen and into your home.

Extremely fun specially in combination with marble runs . More curious to discover further applications with electricity/mechanics from relevant NHK program

This is my son's favorite TV show. He loves Rube Goldberg devices, so we're looking forward to using this at the end, just like on the videos. It's really well-constructed and authentic, and a neat thing is the included ball has dimples, so it will stay in place on a flat surface, ready to be knocked into the goal by another object.

The toy is amazing and fun. The seller is really polite and courteous. The package arrived much faster than I expected.
