I believe the design is essentially one that uses the cheapest parts that still provide mostly high quality measurements. I don't expect it to last forever and I already own broken multimeters. I thought my best multimeter (USA brand, $80, but also made in China) just went on the blink which is the reason why I bought this one. I made the mistake of not testing its battery with a load on it. Its display lit up bright but went into crazy and the battery tested at 9.5v. Shame on me for not testing the battery properly. I use my cheap H.F. multimeter for testing 1.5 & 9v batteries since it can test them properly but often I'm lazy and only apply the voltage test which bit me here. Zinc carbon batteries are notorious for sometimes testing at a high voltage even when dead. "Lucky" for me I accidentally discovered the battery was dead when I received my new multimeter. (I put the dead battery in the new DM6000AR and it acts completely dead unlike in my more expensive multimeter which displays, albeit incoherently.)I'm currently in the process of taking down my over-the-range microwave oven to replace what I expect to be a blown thermal fuse. I've had to test ceramic fuses on two microwaves already so I'm aware of the potential difficulties and hazards. Fuses were on my mind when I bought this multimeter so I looked to see how easy it would be to get replacement fuses (and how much it will cost). I googled 400mA and 10A ceramic 600V 6x30mm fuses. I came up with very little. I went to a link target and saw two reviews there from people that bought that fuse (probably both people for this multimeter) and one of the reviewers posted a picture showing the received fuse was longer than 30mm and it could not be made to work (later I found what I believe is the same person included the photo in a review here too). I contacted AstroAI for sources for fuses and was advised on how to search. I emailed back and was given more search advice. Still, my options were little better after having completely wasted a large chunk of time. (I did find that when you need one fuse, you will probably have to buy 5 or even 10 of the same. Amazon may not be the best source for fuses.) I emailed back and I was sent three links to specific fuses. None ideal for bother now, but at least AstroAI finally helped. All three times I emailed, AstroAI quickly responded. Hopefully, you'll never need a fuse, but here's what I found out by searching and conversing with AstroAI. You may have to or want to settle for 250V instead of 600V - this will guarantee more choices. You can use .5A (500mA) instead of 400mA. You can use Slow Blow fuses instead of Fast Blow but I wonder if this is mostly only if you are getting 250V instead of 600V - probably not, but it might be best. In all cases, look only at size 6x30mm and ceramic, not glass. I just now see another reviewer who contacted AstroAI a couple years ago about fuses ended up buying BOJACK brand fuses (18 pieces each) but got glass fuses. I think glass is wrong and also less safe.I timed the backlight (turned on by holding the H button until it comes on) at 13 fixed short seconds. On an unrelated note, others have reported that pressing the Select button while turning on disables Auto Power Off (normally APO on display) (lasts for one session) so the multimeter doesn't shutdown after 15 minutes. While in this state, supposedly, it will beep every 15 minutes as a reminder. The reason I rounded 4 1/2 stars up to 5, is because the included bitsy manual says 3 year warranty (I'll disregard the nebulous "normal wear and tear of mechanical components" disclaimer). Weird that the warranty is nowhere stated on this Amazon page, and when I clicked on the warranty info link, Amazon sent me to a useless broken page that screws with my browser. The link to a pdf/printable manual provided by the first/top reviewer was appreciated although it has (I believe exactly) three differences (from the included tiny script) since it must be an older manual. It shows there used to be only a one year warranty and the fuses used to be a much larger size. I just now see there is also a link provided by AstroAI to a pdf manual which has the (updated) three year warranty but it still gives the old or wrong (10x38mm) fuse size!!! And both of the pdf's have a picture of the multimeter but it's model WH5000A (not DM6000AR) although otherwise identical including "6000 COUNTS". I just searched and found a report that the DM6000AR been remarketed in the West from the Kuman WH5000A. Reviewers liked the magnet which I immediately ditched. I folded some scotch tape on the flimsy kickstand because otherwise it's too flush to pull out.I reserve the right to downgrade my rating because AstroAI states on this page: "Batteries : 1 Lithium Metal batteries required. (included)" before it eventually states "Zinc Carbon" which is not the same nor as good.

Honestly it wouldn't do what I bought it for. I wanted to set the frequency of my standby generators. I kept it tho. It's a nice meter. And after I did some research I found that it wasn't the meters fault, it would read clean frequency perfectly like house power, but the generators power is to "dirty" for the meter to read it accurately.
