I wanted to be able to read license plates from the recordings and photos taken by a dashcam, as well as have more visibility than just out the front window - and this unit does it. The clarity in the Sony cameras' images is excellent, along with its night vision. You're safer using a dashcam that can pick up on these things. Another thing I wanted was a camera that could see more than just ahead, as what happens if you get hit from behind? Now, with the E2's rear camera, that's covered as well, and with similar clarity. Though in my case, the rear window is at more of an angle, and doesn't have wipers, so it's not going to have the same clear pictures just because it's got to look through more glass, the window defroster, and some occasional rain drops. Still, if the person behind me is looking at their cell phone while driving, I think the camera will be able to tell. The resolution is 2596 x 1944 at 24FPS, though you can select a lower resolution if you want to have smaller videos and photos placed on the card (giving more available history). I'm using a 256 GB Samsung memory card, and it's plenty for me, even though both cameras are recording simultaneously. The field of view is 160 degrees, which covers a lot of the forward and backward views. Like most dashcams, it won't be recording someone driving into you from the side, but in that case, you would be able to show that you had the light when you drove into the intersection, for example. And yes, when you take a photo, it takes a photo out of both cameras and stores them separately. You can even use the camera to see the back cam's view if you'd like, but I wouldn't want to rely on the small screen if trying to make driving decisions that way.Another nice feature is the voice command. At first, I thought it was a bit gimmicky, but I actually found it useful in giving common commands, such as Take A Picture or Turn Microphone Off. It works consistently and almost always recognizes my voice and my passenger's voice if I can remember the exact command. I haven't tried using the included remote - not sure I will, as it's not really needed.Installation instructions are clear, though I did watch the installation video so I had a good idea of how it would go. I did trim down the mounting plastic to fit well behind my rear-view mirror without having to touch the painted part of my windshield (I think that's paint, and I didn't want to risk pulling that off should I need to remove the 3M plastic part). Feels strong and secure, unlike a typical suction mount. The 20-foot cable that connects the front cam to the back was plenty long enough in my sedan, with extra cable looped up in the roof area. I did use the small tool that let me pull the trim out of the way to get the cable easily behind the trim parts. I will want to see how well it survives the heat of summer. Speaking of which, the capacitor eliminates the concern that heat will damage the battery, which is a nice touch. The app was easy to follow, and relatively easy to connect to the camera. Just remember that the camera needs to be NOT in recording mode, and then turn on wifi (voice commands can help with this, or just hold in the bottom right button to bring up the wifi selection menu). Then on your phone, select the band (2.4 or 5) and then click on the camera icon to connect. You can then view stored images, or click the Edit button to select which images or videos to download to your phone. Once on your phone, you can sync them with your photos folder to make them available outside of the app. The unit tracks GPS and when displaying the video in the desktop app, it shows on the map the starting and ending points of the video on the map. Great for finding the video that applies to a specific map location. Photos and videos can be taken separately, although you can always screen capture a video frame. This dashcam has a lot of strengths, and I'm liking it. After being in a head-on collision with the other driver at fault and arbitration couldn't prove fault as it was he-said she-said, I suggest to EVERYONE to get a dash cam. Wish I had one in my past case, but I do now and always will from now on. And this one will make it easy to get the video from the camera as soon as the accident occurs so the fault can be identified asap.A couple of things I wish were different with this dashcam is how the wifi works. I thought that I'd be able to be in the house and pull videos from my phone, but the range is stated to be insufficient - though I was able to get near a window along the driveway and it worked. The other problem is that it does require that you put the camera into wifi mode before you can connect, so you have to go to the car to initiate the connection. That's ok. The other thing that I would have appreciated is to have the CPL included rather than making it optional, but hey, you can't have everything, right? The photos show cloudy days and night examples. For privacy reasons I didn't want to show plates, but you can see them when close enough. One shot shows how snow and a windshield wiper appear in a photo. GPS locations have been fuzzed out.So make SURE you get some type of dashcam to protect your interests, as it could pay for itself many times over if you ever needed it. And this one is a good choice with both front and rear collision covered.

メディアを読み込めませんでした。Edit: (October 16, 2024) After two years of using the Vantrue E2, I am still absolutely delighted with its performance and gladly give it 5 stars. Since the release of the Vantrue Element 2 dash cam, key updates have further enhanced its functionality:1. Firmware Enhancements: The latest version (E2_VT-ECH211) added over-the-air update capability, optimized pause recording, improved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stability, and extended parking mode pre-recording from 5 to 15 seconds.2. iOS App Improvements: Updates have enhanced user experience and connectivity with better navigation. The consistent firmware updates and app improvements have only made the experience better, adding impressive features that elevate the overall functionality. I’m happy to rate the iOS app 5 stars as well. If I ever decide to upgrade my dash cam, it will undoubtedly be another Vantrue product. For further details on these updates, check the official Vantrue website or the discussions on Dash Cam Forum.Original Review (October 11, 2022):The VanTrue Element 2 (E2) is a high quality dash cam with 2.5K front and rear 2596 x 1944P @ 24fps 160 FOV (or 2K front and rear 1440P @ 30fps 160 FOV) with Voice Commands, and an additional small button remote that you can mute the camera and take photos from, 5Ghz WiFi, GPS and a very easy to use VanTrue Cam App!I’m quite happy with my purchase. This is a very nice, high-quality dash cam. Unboxing is like unboxing a iPhone. The video quality (of both front and rear cameras) is really great. The camera is easy to install, the setup is straight forward especially with the accompanying app after connecting to the camera WiFi. I highly recommend it if you're looking for high-quality dual dash cam with voice commands, 5Ghz WiFi, GPS and a very easy to use App!Installation:The camera comes with three USB-C cables, one connecting the front camera/GPS mount to the power outlet (cigarette lighter), one connecting front and back camera and a USB-C data cable (to connect camera to computer). I purchased the optional Hardwire Kit which connects the camera to the fuse block. It provides power to the camera and for parking mode. I routed the rear camera cable and hardwire power cable along the front windshield tucking under the headliner then to the left A-Pillar away from the airbag following exiting wires there and then down to the interior fuse box. I then continued to route the rear camera cable back along the top inside the door frames and headliner. When I got to the rear hatch I was able to pass the cable through grommets in the hatch then up to the rear window. Both the front and back camera come with very good adhesive and are easily attached to the windshield glass. The total installation took me about an hour. If you have done this before it should be much quicker to install.Setup:Once all wires were connected and the camera was working I removed the front camera and updated the camera firmware. To update the firmware you must download it from the Vantrue website support page. After downloading the file copy it to the root directory of your micro SD card. I purchased a PNY Elite-X 256gb which is working good. After installing the SD card in your camera and powering it up in your vehicle it will take a little time for the camera to update and turn on. Use the camera’s buttons to setup the date and WiFi. Once that is done download the VanTrue Cam App to your phone. Connect your phone to the camera’s WiFi to continue setting up your camera. Setup is always a bit tedious. This camera is no different when setting things up directly from the front display. That is why I recommend downloading the app which allows for a very easy setup over WiFi.Video Quality:Another aspect where this dashcam shines is the video quality. Both front and rear cameras capture very high quality videos at 2.5K front and rear 1944P @ 24fps 160 FOV (or 2K front and rear 1440P @ 30fps 160 FOV). The videos and snapshots are very clear both day and night.Operation during driving:Operation of the camera is very easy using voice commands. There are many commands available like taking a picture or saving a video. See the attached picture for a list of commands. This one one of my main purchasing points I was looking for. I seldom ever look at the camera’s screen. I use voice commands and the app.VanTrue Cam App (Version 2.0.23):Although the rating in the app store is low the newest revision is very good. I gave it 5 stars. I have not encountered any problems with a iPhone 12 with IOS 16. Everything in the app is working correctly. One thing to remember is that you should have the most current firmware on your dash cam installed. To correctly run the app with your camera you must “Turn On Your Dash Cam WiFi Before You Start The App” do this and you should not have any app problems. You can still view your downloaded videos and snapshots without wifi and copy them to your phones photo gallery. The app also runs great on a iPad.Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I highly recommend the E2 if you're looking for a high-quality dash cam.Additional Items That Can Be Purchased:The hardwire kit:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083XB8T7T?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsThe hardwire allows your camera to be powered with the vehicle running or off allowing parking mode features. It will power off your camera if your vehicle battery drops below a chosen setting (12v or 11.6v).Circular Polarizer Lens (CPL) for Vantrue E2 Dash Cam:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2VMYQBL?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsIt can effectively reduce reflections, enhance contrast and boost saturation while retaining neutral color rendition in all your shots.

I chose the Vantrue E2 dash cam principally because of the high resolution (2592x1440) on *both* front AND rear cameras, and high quality Sony image sensors which I knew would give great HDR and night time video even in high-contrast environments such as oncoming headlights. After confidence that I would capture useful images and video everything else was a bonus, and there are many.First of all, the camera forgoes a large hard to position display in favor of a small good quality one, and a WiFi connected cellphone provides the main display for all purposes: live video and configuration as well as reviewing and downloading captured images and videos. That small display on the dash cam allows the smaller camera to hide more effectively behind the rear-view mirror, and the E2 layout places the camera closer to the centerline of the vehicle. The lens itself is larger – allowing more light capture, less video noise, and fewer optical aberrations than seen with smaller lens systems. The 40mm front lens has an optional extra polarizing filter, which I bought because reflections of the inside of my car have faulted other dash cams that I have owned. I use polarizing filters on my full-frame cameras, why not give a dashcam which may capture an even more valuable image the same advantage? See the provided pictures comparing well-adjusted and unadjusted polarization. The distracting reflection of the vent on the top of my dashboard is greatly reduced. The rear camera does have a smaller lens, but thankfully does not actually seem compromised in either daylight or night time. [It is even better when you remember to peel off the protective film. D’oh!]Other features are well-implemented. In particular there is a voice-control function which so far seems to work well with even my soft British accent, and is much easier than messing about with the tiny buttons when turning on WiFi to make other new-owner adjustments. Particularly welcome is the ability to selectively mute the various categories of chimes and alerts individually – I only want to know when something is wrong, not that the camera is feeling good about turning on.There is one feature of the camera which I was not expecting: there is a small postage stamp sized remote control. I couldn’t think why I would want that, but it is actually the item I interact with most of all! I have it stuck (provided self-adhesive patch) in an otherwise blank section of my lower dash and use the ‘spoken command’ button and the Alert button often. The Alert button immediately captures still images (front and rear cameras) and marks the videos then being recorded as protected from over-writing so that you can always find them later. Finally, something to capture those moments which make you exclaim ‘wow!’Installation, taking it slow as I worked on my own car, took 3 hours. About 45 minutes to run the hard-wire kit (optional, I recommend) and rear video cable from the area of my rear-view mirror down an A-pillar to the fuse box, and another 2+ hours to carefully chase the video cable rearward to the center top of my rear window by way of the passenger-side door sills. The 20ft cable for the rear camera was more than sufficient for my sedan (and would have suited an SUV too). Positioning the camera using the one-time sticky pads took maybe 10 minutes each as I fiddled about measuring a dozen times for sticking once. Modern cars have equipment behind the rear view mirror so it is useful that the E2 is itself so compact.I use a 256 GB Micro SD card (U3 speed rating). The 2560x1440 30fps MP4 video captured consumes 6.4GB/hour for each of the front and rear cameras so that gives me about 20 hours before it starts overwriting the routine recordings. (Other FPS and resolutions are available, including 2592x1944 at 24FPS). Of course, interesting recordings are preserved from overwriting. The E2 itself supports up to 512GB cards. The hard-wire kit only requires a permanent 12V (or24V) supply and can be set to block power if the battery voltage falls too low. I was happy to find that the camera does in fact turn itself off to a very low power draw after the configurable time, according to parking mode so the cut-off is a back up measure. The front and rear cameras (and the remote) come with pre-applied self-adhesive pads. Time will tell whether they stand up to the rigors of an Arizona summer, but so far so good and powerful double-sided adhesive pads are readily available and cheap. The front camera attaches to the windshield mount with a magnetically latching clip to make for easy. In practice I don’t think I will need to remove the camera too often because the WiFi connected Vantrue app allows me to copy video and image files in-situ.Pros:+ Great video, day or night+ Useful remote control+ WiFi connection to my cellphone for administration and reviewing images and videos.+ Printed manualCons- Wide angle cameras make positioning them optimally a temporary challenge for the compulsive.- The cameras naturally position a few inches behind the glass and can also show dirt or heating filaments in the glass.

Back to back problems. They used to be good, I can’t vouch anymore. Mine arrived and the magnetic GPS mount quit passing power to the dash cam. They said they were going to send me a new one. Now the software they have on their website to download (firmware) causes my cam to lock up say it’s going into parking mode while I’m driving. It doesn’t happen often but that all I need is for it to shut down and not record while I’m counting on it recording in case of an accident I’m just going to return it and try ordering it again. Perhaps I got a bad one. One thing for sure is I’m not going to download firmware. They offered to send me a new gps mount but I haven’t received it yet. They said they sent me a new firmware to try but it’s labeled the same as the one on their website so it’s the same, I think. I asked them about the file being the same name as the one on their website but they did not reply to that (four days running).Update:So the file they sent me that has the same name (my computer basically added a .1 to the title because it was the same name as the other file from their website) really was a different file than their latest firmware from their website. I went ahead and installed it. Just like the last one (261) this one (211) went into parking mode while I was driving and I didn’t notice until about fifteen minutes into my trip. What if I was involved in an accident where I needed proof or footage showing it wasn’t my fault? There’s no footage of my driving prior to me noticing and pulling the camera and reinserting it into the GPS magnetic mount which basically cuts power and revives power causing a restart. Plus I am doing this while driving. So the new firmware on their website caused my camera to malfunction. The software they sent to fix the issue did not resolve random parking mode issue.Update 3/17/2025I finally received the replacement magnetic GPS mount that was shipped from China. It took almost a month. It would have been nice if there was a quicker way to get replacement parts. Luckily I keep a spare setup handy and used my spare parts while waiting for the replacement to arrive. Not everyone has a spare setup to use while waiting for Vantrue to come through on a warranty issue. Also, many times I write to them and don’t get a response until three in the morning and that’s adds to the delay in getting service, plus it’s always in my spam folder for whatever reason.I have four of these cams and updated the software on three of them with the other camera not at my house (my daughter’s car). I was able to find out the firmware that was on her camera and asked vantrue to send me that one and rolled back the malfunctioning cameras to that one. Now my cameras are working properly once again. Vantrue was willing to work with me. The firmware that I got on the website didn’t adversely affect the camera that was installed with the cigarette adapter that powers on when I turn on the car and powers down when I turn off the car. It only affected the hardwired cars that were using parking mode.I will post pictures of my setup shortly because I don’t know if my particulars have any bearing. Because my first three cameras all came with straight cables and the hardwired kits also come with straight vs right angled cables, I used a couple different adapters to make a neater appearance.Vantrue should have all their cables use a right angle connector at the point that it connects into the rear camera or the magnetic gps mount.

UPDATE 9/23/22 ================I re-tested the E2 with hard-wire kit sold separately, since VANTRUE keeps trying to tell me my results are wrong. I wired the kit to a 12.4V variable DC power supply (prior test was 13.4V supply). This is the current draw of the E2 in various parking modes, after 15 minutes running, and after the screen shut off:* Parking Mode Motion Detection: 300 mA (was 270 mA with 13.4V supply)* Parking Mode Collision Detection : 5 mA (was 7 mA with 13.4V supply)* Parking Mode Low Frame Rate @ 1 FPS: 263 mAAs you can see, the current draw in Motion Detect mode is *60 times* greater than Collision Detect mode. Further, for a typical car battery capacity of 60 Ah (Amp-hours), Motion Detection will drain the battery in 200 hours (60 Ah / 0.300 A). That's roughly 8 days, give or take a few for different battery sizes. And that's FULL car battery discharge time. A battery might be too dead to cold start a car when it's only HALF drained.Presumably, in Motion Detection mode, the battery will only die completely if you use the charger included with the E2. If you use the hardwire kit instead, it will turn your cam off when your battery voltage drains down to the switch setting of 12.0 or 11.6 V. In this case, the E2 fails to protect the car past shutoff, and your battery still might be too low for a cold engine start.Collision Detection, on the other hand, will take 12,000 hours to drain a 60 Ah battery at 5 mA. That's 1.37 years.ORIGINAL REVIEW 9/19/22 ===============I received the camera last week, and will install it when my new car arrives. But I wired it up to a 12v charger and gave it a 'coffee table' test. All the functions seem to work well, and the optics are great. The user manual is horrible, and some things you have to figure out for yourself. But so far, I give the camera unit 3.5 stars. I'll update this after I install it and drive it around some.I had asked in the Question section if the E2 would drain my car battery if it were left in Parking Mode with Motion Detection for a week in an airport parking garage. Seller gave false answer to this question, so I deleted the question (Amazon will not let me edit in any way) because I refuse to let seller use it for false product claims. This seller false product claim is the reason I give 1 star.I have an ammeter, and I measured current draw from my 12v charger (13.4v actual) in different dashcam modes. I measured using both the hard-wire kit and the charger which comes with the E2, and the hardwire kit drew about 10 mA less current in each mode. Here are my E2 current measurements:Park Mode (Motion Detect), Screen Off: 270 mAPark Mode (Motion Detect), Screen Off during event record: 290 mAPark Mode (Collision Detect), Screen Off: 6 to 7 MASo for a typical battery with a 60 Ah capacity, Parking Mode (Motion Detect) will deplete the battery in about 220 hours. Parking Mode (Collision Detect) will run for over 8,000 hours. This is expected, since Motion Detect keeps the optical processing powered up, while Collision Detect does not. So lesson learned: Don't use Motion Detect for longer than a week. And do not trust Seller's answers to product questions! Seller told me this would not drain my battery before I tested it's current draw. His answer would have left me stranded in an airport parking lot at the end of my trip.Only Parking Mode (Collision Detect) will run without draining your car battery in a week or 10 days. Motion Detection uses about 40x more current.
